TERRASCAPE is a capacity-building project in higher education that aims to make remote sensing and geomatics genuine drivers of development for partner universities in Africa. By bringing together institutions from Africa, France and Spain, the project creates a framework for scientific and educational cooperation to support training, innovation and regional impact.
Against a backdrop of growing environmental, territorial and socio-economic challenges, TERRASCAPE addresses a strategic need: to train professionals capable of producing, analysing and utilising geospatial information to inform public decision-making, strengthen applied research and support sustainable development. The project draws on recent technological advances, open-access Earth observation data and robust open-source tools to make these skills more accessible, more sustainable and better rooted in African realities.
Beyond knowledge transfer, TERRASCAPE aims to foster a sustainable partnership between universities, the socio-economic sector and innovation stakeholders. The project thus aims to enhance the international visibility of partner institutions, support the emergence of local ecosystems and contribute to the training of a new generation of lecturers and researchers, students and entrepreneurs committed to transforming their local areas.
